RICHFIELD, Minn. — "The opportunity of being able to work with 'Toys for Tots' and the marines is something we've been doing the last several years," said Pastor Mike Lynch, a chaplain with the Minneapolis Police Department.
It may not be the time for Santa to come down the chimney yet, but at this 'Toys for Tots' warehouse - volunteers - are sorting gifts to deliver to homes near and far.
"The mother with all of her kids, a single mom needing a little help," said Lynch. "We're just rebuilding that community relationship."
"They had a bunch of kids and we brought as much as possible, basketball set, some plushies," said Staff Sergeant Tyree Stevens.
It's a partnership.
"Churches, they know their community, MPD, they know their community," added Stevens.
It's a chance to give back to those most in need, like at this 'Toys for Tots' distribution event at Minneapolis College.
"We're giving out toys for students that need help this Christmas," said Outreach Coordinator Elma Osmanovic.
"We have 1,049 student parents, 168 signed up for toys for tots, 458 kids in total," she added.
Kids like 2-year-old Jordan Imani.
"To have the school give to the families, that's awesome," said Jordan's mother and student, Imani Walker.
With joint efforts, the goal is to make this Christmas one that everyone involved will remember for years to come.
"I think the feeling of receiving a toy is just as good of a feeling as giving a toy," said Stevens. "A smile on a face warms your heart."
