MERRIFIELD, Minn. — The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office has identified a Twin Cities couple who died at their vacation home Sunday.

A news release sent out Wednesday says Crow Wing County deputies and Breezy Point Police were dispatched to a home on the 11000 block of Shelstad Drive near Pelican Lake just before 2:45 p.m. on a welfare check. When squads arrived they found a 59-year-old woman dead inside the home. She has been identified as 59-year-old Jodi Lysne from Minneapolis.

Law enforcement also found a 53-year-old man inside the home. While escorting him outside the man reportedly experienced a "medical emergency" and the sheriff's office said despite lifesaving efforts he died. That man has been identified as Brett Shelstad from Minneapolis.

The sheriff's office said Shelstad and Lysne were engaged but shared no other details. Sheriff Eric Klang told several media outlets, including Lakeland News, that investigators are checking into the possibility the deaths are drug-related.

“We’re looking into everything right now,” Klang said.

Autopsies, including toxicology tests, are being performed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) are assisting with the investigation.
