MINNEAPOLIS — Two boys, aged 12 and 14, were arrested this week for driving recklessly and attempting to evade authorities in north Minneapolis, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

A post on the office's Facebook page says members of its Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) were on detail with the Minneapolis Police Department as part of Operation Endeavor when they noticed a vehicle — discovered to be stolen — "driving recklessly" on the city's north side.

The post goes on to claim officers had attempted a traffic stop moments earlier, but the driver "quickly fled." VOTF detectives then used spike strips, forcing the vehicle to slow, before conducting a PIT maneuver to eventually stop the vehicle.

Police claim that one of the occupants of the vehicle attempted to escape on foot, but was quickly caught and placed under arrest by officers at the scene.

The two occupants of the vehicle, the 12-year-old driver and a 14-year-old passenger were both taken into custody and charged with fleeing a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

Authorities say the driver had a cast on his leg "from a recent gunshot wound" at the time of his arrest.
