MINNEAPOLIS — The recent rainfall may have caused Minneapolis officials to temporarily close two beaches in the city.
Both the Webber Natural Swimming Pool and Lake Harriet Southeast Beach were temporarily closed by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board on Tuesday, according to the organization.
The pair of closures was linked to the recent rainfall possibly washing bacteria from the landscape into the water, said the park board.
At Webber NSP, sampling found that Enterococci bacteria surpassed the park board's standard for the facility. Because the NSP doesn't use chemicals for water treatment, the biological filtration may take some time before the pool's bacteria levels return to the appropriate range.
At Lake Harriet Southeast Beach, samples found E. coli bacteria exceeded state guidelines.
Both locations will be resampled on Thursday, June 20 and will be reopened when bacteria levels return to standard.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
