MINNEAPOLIS — Many a hungry late night, University of Minnesota students have flocked to the Dinkytown McDonald's for fries, ice cream, and greasy fare.

And after a three-year hiatus, the fast food chain is back, to much student fanfare.

Also known as "Dinky Don's," the restaurant opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday. Eager students filed in through the red and yellow balloon arches, cheering.

The campus mainstay closed in December 2020 after 57 years in business, according to the Minnesota Daily. It reopened in the same location on 4th Street Southeast.

The restaurant shares a building with the contentious Identity Apartments, which fell behind construction schedule and just allowed students to move in at the end of September.
