The University of Minnesota has announced its plan to handle the continuing delays in processing financial aid forms.

The U has elected to extend the deadline for enrollment confirmation, the extensions will depend on which UMN facility prospective students have applied to.

For the Twin Cities campus:

  • Both the enrollment confirmation and housing application deadlines have been delayed to May 15, they were previously set for May 1.
  • The financial aid application priority deadline has been pushed to March 15, it was previously set for March 1.

For the campuses in Duluth, Crookston, Morris and Rochester, the enrollment confirmation deadline has been set for June 1, it was previously scheduled for May 1.

“We know that choosing a university and figuring out how to pay for it are significant decisions for most students and families. We wanted to provide incoming students additional time to receive their financial aid offer, apply for housing, and make the right college decision for their circumstances,” said Robert McMaster, vice provost and dean of undergraduate education on the Twin Cities campus, in a statement.

On February 1, the U.S. Department of Education announced the forms won't be sent to colleges and universities until the middle of March.

According to the Department of Education, the latest delay happened because the system it uses to calculate financial aid didn't include the latest inflation adjustments.
