MINNEAPOLIS — The search for the next president of the University of Minnesota has been narrowed down to three candidates.

The school's board of regents announced the three finalists are Dr. Laura Blomberg, Dr. Rebecca Cunningham and Dr. James Holloway.

All three candidates will begin visiting the school's campuses across the state to meet with students, staff, faculty and the public on Feb. 12.

“The Board is proud to advance such highly qualified finalists for the University’s top leadership position — all from an outstanding group of candidates,” said Board Chair Janie Mayeron, in a statement.

All three finalists are currently serving their respective academic institutions at the executive level.

  • Dr. Laura Blomberg currently serves as the president of Cleveland State University and was the former dean of the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
  • Dr. Rebecca Cunningham currently serves as the vice president for research and innovation at the University of Michigan.
  • Dr. James Holloway currently serves as the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Mexico.
