There isn't much snow on the ground, but that did not matter for eager Minnesotans entering the annual Name a Snowplow contest.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) narrowed down the submission pile from more than 8,000 options to just 50 so that Minnesotans can vote for the winners. From the saltiest puns to the chilliest monikers, here are a few names to look out for while voting.
Minne-snow-tan favs
In honor of our great and frozen state, some of the plow names tie in Minnesotan history.
"L’Plow du Nord" and "Lady Slippery" made icy references to the state's favorites. "Waipahiƞte," the Dakota word for snowplow, digs into the state's roots.
And we can't forget about "Minnesnowta N'ice," the state's unofficial custom that either warms you up inside or scrapes you the wrong way.
A few slushy celebrities
Many of the entries included movie references and celebrity cameos, including "Beyonsleigh" and "Barbie's Dream Plow."
"Dolly Plowton" recently released a rock album... which would be great for traction on those roads.
And could this list really be complete without a Taylor Swift reference? "Taylor Drift" might fit a plow "All Too Well" in the city that Mayor Jacob Frey dubbed "Swifteapolis."
And a flurry of puns
From witty rhymes (Blizzard Wizard) to iconic movie characters (Clark W. Blizzwald), these submissions have a salty bite.
"I came, I thaw, I conquered" is a strong contestant, and "Can’t Snow Me Down" looks to lend the plows a little extra oomph.
