WASECA, Minn — Search warrants filed in Waseca County this week reveal the suspect charged with shooting a police officer in the head allegedly discussed his desire to die at the hands of police.
The search warrant affidavit says BCA personnel interviewed Tyler Janovsky's mother, who told them that "within the past two (2) weeks, Tyler Janovsky had discussed his desire and intent to commit 'suicide by cop.'"
Waseca Police Officer Arik Matson is in critical condition.
The search warrants, written by BCA Agent Andrew Johnson, asked to extract data from Janovsky's cell phone, and collect evidence from inside and outside the home where the shooting happened.
According to the evidence receipt, investigators seized from the driveway:
- several cartridge cases and a magazine
- firearm
- two knives
- bullets
Investigators also found bullet fragments in the house's attic, and a taser in the snow.
