WATCH: Hot air balloon crashes near Minnesota highway

A small fire broke out near where the basket landed and the Rochester Fire Department was able to extinguish it.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating after a hot air balloon crashed near a Minnesota highway near Rochester on Wednesday.

Traffic cameras captured the red, white and blue balloon veering towards Highway 63 before it appears to collide with a power line and sparks fly.

The balloon was attempting to land in a field when a gust of wind pushed it into a power line, according to preliminary information from the Rochester Police Department.

"The basket became disconnected from the balloon and fell approximately 20-30 feet to the ground," according to the police.

Two of the balloon's three occupants reported minor injuries, according to the police.

A small fire broke out near where the basket landed and the Rochester Fire Department was able to extinguish it.

The balloon was reportedly located a couple miles away.
