MINNEAPOLIS — Since 2019, Wendy's House of Soul on Glenwood Avenue in north Minneapolis has served one-of-a-kind meals made from the soul, and as a place for community conversations.
Even through tragedy and tough times, Wendy Puckett has welcomed the community into her store.
"The Harrison neighborhood has been amazing," said Puckett.
But this week, the restaurant posted this message to their customers on Facebook saying, "We lost our lease! Last week at this address. We are sad that we will no longer be in the Harrison neighborhood."
"It's not something that we planned but life happens and we have to move on," said Puckett. "We are going to miss the community here, but I'm going to stay in touch. Not only do I work here, but I reside on the north side, and I love the north side."
While Puckett has made this neighborhood her second home, it's an emotional journey leaving it behind.
"Gratitude, just thank you, and just follow us wherever we're going. I definitely want to stay in north side," she said.
But Puckett is staying optimistic and will continue to do what she loves, just in another location. On Wednesday, Dec. 28, Puckett confirmed that her restaurant will relocate to a new space next year, thanks to the help of Sammy's Avenue Eatery.
"We want people to know that we appreciate their business; we're going to keep the soul rolling," she said. "Catering will not stop and all orders that were booked we're still going to fill those, and we can actually fill more orders."
As she gets ready to close up shop, she's sending a message of support to the Harrison neighborhood and her customers.
"I just want people to know that community is everything and I just want to keep community and family, love and food together, and continue to soul in whatever capacity in any community that will have us. That's where we'll be," said Puckett.
Puckett's last day serving food on Glenwood Avenue will be Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Keep an eye on their social media pages – Wendy's plans to reopen on Jan. 16 in time for Martin Luther King, Jr. day.
The business is planning to update the public on its new location in the upcoming days.
