Christmas tree farms and lots in the Twin Cities metro

Don't be a Grinch... get a tree! Here are the local farms.

MINNEAPOLIS — There's nothing better than the smell of a fresh-cut pine tree around the holidays.

So if you are looking to gather 'round and decorate the tree, here are a few Twin Cities metro tree farms to keep in mind.

Minneapolis - Christmas Tree Ranch

Located in Northeast Minneapolis, this tree ranch offers a taste of a frosted forest in the big city. It advertises fresh trees, wreaths and spruce tips.

Google reports the ranch's hours as 12-6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 12-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday. Hours may differ on Thanksgiving or Black Friday. Click here for more information.

St. Paul - Happy Land Tree Farms

If you like to check your references when it comes to tree farms, look no further. Happy Land trees are standing tall at the Vice President's Residence and State Capitol this year.

According to their website, the farm specializes in spruce trees, but also offers conifers and deciduous trees. For a bonus family experience, Happy Land offers cut-your-own trees at their Sandstone location. For more information, click here

Lake Elmo - Krueger's Christmas Trees

Looking for the true Christmas lumberjack experience of cutting down your own tree? Krueger's has you covered with a selection of cut-your-own and pre-cut trees.

The website has approximate prices listed for each type of tree available, including the popular Fraser Firs. In addition to trees, there are wreaths, spruce tops, garlands and tree stands. For more information, click here

St. Louis Park - B & J Trees

This tree farm has a vast array of Christmas decorations, from trees to porch pots to garlands. As a bonus, Santa will be on-site on select days, and there is a deal running at the local Park Tavern if you buy a tree.

On Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving, hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The farm is closed Thanksgiving but reopens Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., and Friday to Sunday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

B & J Trees has additional locations in Richfield, Eden Prairie, Princeton and Clear Lake. For more information, click here

Minnetonka - Timber Bay Christmas Tree Lots

Timber Bay is an annual fundraiser for teens in need in the Minnetonka area. The lot is open Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The group posted on Facebook that they were looking for volunteers for the tree-selling fundraiser. Check their Facebook page for more information.

Maple Grove - Kingdom Acres

This tree farm has a full range of holiday festivities — but it is only open for Thanksgiving weekend so go sooner rather than later!

Activities include wagon rides, food and drinks, and a bonfire. Kingdom Acres are open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving. Click the link for more.

Mounds View - Big John's Christmas Trees

If you're looking to brighten up the living room this year, Big John's offers flocked trees, which can be white, blue, red, pink, purple or other colors. It also has regular fresh-cut trees and wreaths.
