Winterizing your car: What you need to do

Experts weighed in on the list of things you need to complete as the temperatures plunge.

MINNEAPOLIS — Brrr... It's starting to feel a lot like the traditional Minnesota winter.

Starting Friday, temperatures are expected to head into the teens. So dig out that dusty winter coat and don't forget to prepare your car as well!

The American Automobile Association (AAA) said the main winter car troubles are flat tires and dead batteries.

Remember to check your tire pressure, tire treads, coolant levels, how old your oil is, and your windshield wipers.

"Check your windshield wipers so that you have clear visibility," said Audra Fordin, owner of Great Bear Auto Repair. "If your windshield wipers are chattering or leaving any streaks, definitely now is the time to replace them."

On average, AAA said on their website to get an oil change every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.

Experts recommended having a roadside emergency kit with jumper cables in your car. Don't forget an emergency blanket and snow scraper!
