MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota State Patrol asked drivers to avoid taking unnecessary trips on Saturday after hundreds of vehicles were involved in crashes and spinouts throughout the state.
Ice and snow coated the roads, making conditions difficult for drivers.
According to officials, in 24 hours there were more than 300 crashes and 122 spinouts and vehicles off the road.
Numerous crashes have occurred south of the Twin Cities, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation's 511 map.
A Winter Weather Advisory was in place through 6 a.m. Sunday morning, due to icy roads and surfaces. Skies are expected to clear on Sunday, ahead of New Year's Eve.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
