WELLS, Minn. — An elderly woman is dead following a house fire in southern Minnesota Saturday.

The Faribault County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to reports of a fire in rural Wells just before 4 p.m. and were told there was a person believed to still be inside the residence. First responders went into the burning home, located 88-year-old Shirley Lemons and pulled her out.

Paramedics from Wells and a Mayo Air Care crew provided lifesaving care, but Lemons was eventually declared dead on the scene.

The Wells, Freeborn and Minnesota Lake fire departments and personnel from the Faribault County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota DNR helped with the fire and rescue.

Investigators have not shared the cause of the flames.
