MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis sex crimes investigators are searching for a suspect in what appears to be a rare stranger assault early Wednesday.
Police responded to a call from a woman who said a man she didn't know forced his way into her apartment on the 700 block of 4th Street SE around 4 a.m. and sexually assaulted her.
The woman told officers she was eventually able to escape and dial 911. The victim was taken to the hospital to be checked out and undergo a sexual assault exam. A Minneapolis K-9 officer attempted to track the suspect while the crime lab processed the assault scene inside the apartment.
Police say the victim described her attacker as a white man in his 50s with brown or red facial hair.
On Wednesday afternoon Minneapolis officers canvassed the neighborhood, which is heavily saturated with apartments, handing out flyers alerting residents to the crime.
Anyone with information on the assault or who may be responsible is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
