MINNEAPOLIS - An inmate who broke out of the Hennepin County adult detention center Wednesday morning has been apprehended.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office says 57-year-old Michael Frank Simon was taken into custody in Little Canada by agents from the U.S.Marshals and local law enforcement at approximately 10 a.m., some three hours after he escaped. No details were provided.
Simon was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on Sept. 25 for financial transaction card fraud and a MN Department of Corrections hold for burglary. Around 7 a.m. Wednesday Simon escaped from a 7th story window at the jail.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office immediately notified local law enforcement and began a search for Simon.
This is the first time anyone has escaped from the downtown facility since it opened in 2001. The sheriff's office has launched an internal review to determine what happened.
