Meet Megan Khang, first Hmong pro golfer

KARE Sunrise anchor Gia Vang sat down with Megan Khang after the big tournament last weekend in Chaska, and asked for her impressions.

She’s just 21-years-old, made the top 10 this past weekend at the K-P-M-G Women’s P-G-A Championship in Chaska, AND she's recognized as the first professional Hmong-American golfer.

KARE Sunrise anchor Gia Vang sat down with Megan Khang after the big tournament last weekend in Chaska, and asked for her impressions.

Megan says she thought she played well ..  and was appreciative to play in front of a lot of Hmong fans who came out to support her.

Khang began playing as a little girl. Her dad... who sometimes subs as her caddie, played for fun but saw his daughter had a real skill on the links. Both of her parents survived danger and hardship coming to America, and Megan knows they sacrificed for her to land where she is.

"My dad would tell me he had to go through the jungles and the rivers... "I know they’ve given up a lot for me so I have to take the opportunity and just do it the best I can," she reflects.

The best she can right now … is play her game, and make a bit of history in the process. .

"I’m definitely proud to be the first Hmong American golfer and I hope there’s many more to come. We’ve come such a long way we have anchors golfers doctors... it’s just something to be very proud of because there’s not many Hmong people in this world."

Megan has to maintain her point total, and keeping finishing high if she wants to represent the U-S team in the 2019 Solheim Cup. Only 12 female golfers in the country make that team, and if the squad was selected tomorrow Megan would be one of them.
