MINNEAPOLIS—Not unlike most parent’s, Bonnie and Dan Boyum are very proud of their children. As they thumb through photos of their son Michael at their Inver Grove Heights home, you can see he had all the ingredients of a Minnesota made success story…everything but a happy ending.
Michael was diagnosed with acute leukemia in 1998 during his junior year at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. A year later it would claim his life. Michael’s courageous battle with the disease and his journey of faith is now the subject of a new movie called “Until Forever."
“Everybody loved him, he was just a nice, nice person,” Bonnie said. “Michael had so much faith, he said if God wants to take me at age 21, that’s fine, but I have a high school sweetheart.”
At the films core is a love story that seems tailor made for a movie. Just six weeks before he died, Michael married his childhood sweetheart Michelle Larson.
Bonnie has been the driving force behind getting the movie made by Independent film producer and writer Michael Linn.
‘Until Forever’ was filmed in the Twin Cities and while it is a love story, the film also explores Michael’s faith and how he touched so many lives including his brother Matt, who was suffering from debilitating depression and anxiety.
“Mike always talked about how life is just so short, and it really gave me an internal perspective as far as strengthening my faith,” he said.
While few things are certain in life, Bonnie is sure of one thing for anyone who sees the movie: “It will change people’s lives in some way, in some area it will.”
Upcoming Twin Cities screenings of ‘Until Forever’ include February 12 at Carmike Cinema Oakdale at 7:00 p.m.
Mueller Theater in Lakeville and Mueller Theater in White Bear Lake.
