MN's Most Haunted Digital Extra: 'Gray Ghost'

People run and walk in an annual event honoring the 'Gray Ghost.'

ANOKA, Minn. - In 1971, two women saw a figure in a gray sweatsuit darting through the Forest Hill Cemetery. The figure was running through headstones, so naturally the women called the police.

"There's a man running in his underwear in the cemetery," is what the women are said to have said in the 911 call.

"That's Doc Andberg," the police said.

Not a ghost.

Doc Andberg said that he would run in Forest Hill Cemetery to avoid annoying dogs. After a reporter got ahold of the story, Andberg was branded the 'Gray Ghost' and became a living legend in Anoka.

"They(the women who called 911) thought I was an escapee from the state hospital," Doc Andberg said once.

Now, people run and walk in an annual event honoring the 'Gray Ghost.' The event is held on the last Saturday in October every year, and this year will be the 33rd.

The Halloween Gray Ghost 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk will be on Oct. 31 and is sponsored by the Anoka Business & Landowners Association & North Suburban Striders. For more information, click here.
