MSP leaders ready to take on snowstorm

Airport officials say they have dozens of plows ready to go to keep flights going on time.

Step inside the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Thursday and it's easy to spot those with warmer thoughts.

"Not wearing socks," said Suzy Levi, who is traveling to Los Angeles.

Travelers are happy to be leaving for warmer places. Many of those flying say they would still have some peace of mind if they had a flight this weekend.

"They get it done," said Levi.

In fact, airport officials from other states come here to see how it's done.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) says there's a number of reasons for that.

Airport leaders say they use a team approach, focused on various areas of the airfield runway, taxiway, ramp and gate areas, roadways, parking lots, parking ramps and sidewalks.

The MAC’s Field Maintenance division trains all the time. They do snow-removal dry runs, choreographing the movement of vehicles to be efficient and safe. They watch video, do chalk talks and run through plans to coordinate our best strategies.

That gives people some winter traveling confidence.

"I know I'll get out today and if it snows before I come in I know I'll get in too," said Levi.
