Corrections and clarifications: Ryan Gosling was misidentified in an earlier version of this story.
CANNES, France — It's not clear whether the real Russell Crowe showed up at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his comedy The Nice Guys with Ryan Gosling.
It seemed like more everyone's curmudgeonly-but-funny uncle showed up in the South of France.
Here's a rundown of Uncle Russ's antics.
He was Crowe-erazzi on Ryan Gosling at the press conference
Crowe couldn't help taking some close snaps of his co-star Gosling before the Sunday press conference. Reynolds finally had to wave at him and focus on the oncoming journalists' questions.
Gosling did get a little revenge during the banter-filled conference by taking the Alpha superhero role. "I'm Batman, he's Robin," he said, pointing to Crowe.
He cut down fancy method actin'
Crowe went to town when asked if he incorporates The Stanislavsky Method for his acting. The Oscar-winning actor does what he does when the camera rolls.
"I use the Russell Crowe Method," Crowe joked dryly.
"I don’t even know what the Stanislavski method may be. I have no (bleeping) idea and I don’t care to know," said Crowe.
The comment caused director Shane Black to shake his head laughing, "You just trashed 100 years of tradition."
"Seriously, it’s not that complicated," Crowe added. "If you want to be an actor, work it out for yourself."
He rocked the casual Sunday version of the black-tie premiere
Guys are supposed to wear a black tie on the Cannes red carpet. Crowe's oufit for The Nice Guys world premiere on Sunday was made for pure neck comfort, like he was going to watch some Aussie football later. No tie and plenty of buttons undone, just so you noticed there was no tie.
