IT outages felt across Twin Cities

From gas stations to health clinics, the outages are felt across the globe.

MINNEAPOLIS — Computer systems across the globe are limping back into action after the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike pushed an update overnight that caused a huge number of Microsoft PCs to malfunction.

Its repercussions could be felt for weeks and it now ranks as the largest IT outage in history.

Businesses and services across the globe are being affected by this outage, including the Speedway in Golden Valley that only could take cash Friday.

It's a different pain at the pump. Instead of high prices, some people just don't have cash.

Martha Raid came back once a family member spotted her.

"I actually pulled in here a few hours ago," she said. "And I realized, I couldn't buy gas."

Bob Hegland was trying to track down a working ATM all day for gas and family obligations.

"When you have kids, they all like to hit you up for cash also," he laughed.

Bloomington resident Karen Cook got a call before her PET scan appointment today that had to be canceled.

"They said that the the pharmacy that provided the radiation mixture, wasn't able to access their records and their system," said Cook.

Lizzy Rode is the engagement coordinator for the American Swedish Institute. Their payment system was down for a good chunk of the morning.

"We rely heavily on computers to do everyday tasks as simple as buying a registration or becoming a member." she said.
