FLORIDA, USA — As The Miami Hurricanes and Iowa State Cyclones prepare to go head-to-head in the annual Pop-Tarts Bowl, they’ll be battling for a trophy unlike any other.
This year's trophy features a fully functional toaster with two perfectly Pop-Tart size slots in it thanks to a team up with GE Appliances.
The trophy also features a life-size football, multiple Pop-Tart treats made of metal infused along the body and, of course, "Champions 2024" on the base. Last year's trophy was similar, including the slots to hold Pop-Tarts, but this year's isn't just for show.
The Hurricanes and Cyclones — a meteorological matchup — have accepted bids to the Pop-Tarts Bowl, to be played Dec. 28 in Orlando, Florida. Iowa State (10-3) is looking for its first 11-win season in the program's 133-year history, and Miami (10-2) is seeking its first 11-win season since 2003. These two teams have never met on the gridiron before.
The infamous edible mascot will also make a return this year, with additional new faces, after being toasted and eaten during last year’s game between the Kansas State Wildcats and the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
Pop-Tart became the official title sponsor of the Pop-Tart Bowl, originally named the Blockbuster Bowl, last year. The game is put on by Florida Citrus Sports, a nonprofit organization dedicated to "increasing community spirit and pride, promoting tourism, stimulating economic development” and more, according to their website.
Kick off is at 3:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 28 at the Camping World Stadium and can be watched on ABC.
