Son held in murder of Maple Grove woman

Elizabeth Jane Witt was declared dead on the scene while her husband, George Baptiste Witt, is hospitalized following a brutal assault.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — Police say a 42-year-old man is being held on probable cause murder in the death of his mother and the brutal assault of his father.

Maple Grove Police identify the murder victim as Elizabeth Jane Witt, and the man as her husband George Baptiste Witt. KARE 11 is not naming the suspect as he has not been officially charged.

Squads responded to a home on the 6600 block of Eagle Lake Drive just before 7:45 p.m. after a 911 call reporting an unconscious person. When they arrived officers found Elizabeth Witt, who was pronounced dead on the scene just before 8 p.m.

George Witt was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Maple Grove Police report him in stable condition.

Police have a male suspect in custody who they say knew the victims. While a spokesman tells KARE 11 that the victims were not shot, he did not elaborate further on a cause of death.

They insist there is no remaining threat to the public.
