Police identify man killed in St. Paul crash

A passenger in the SUV was killed, according to police. Family members of Anthony Gilmore say he was the man killed.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Police in St. Paul are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Saturday morning.

The crash happened near the intersection of Earl Street and Maryland Avenue East, according to police. They say initial investigation suggests that an SUV struck a car in the intersection.

A passenger in the SUV was killed, according to police. Authorities are still investigating.

Police have identified Anthony Gilmore as the victim. Sunday afternoon, Gilmore's family was back near the intersection where a memorial continues to grow.

"A lot of people knew him," Maelynn Zeiher said. Zeiher is the mother of three of Gilmore's children. "I'm still meeting people that I didn't know he knew."

However, Zeiher is one of the people who knew him best. She says one of their final conversations was about Gilmore wanting to take a new family photo.

"Since the new baby just came, he said, 'I want to get all the kids together and take pictures with them,'" Zeiher said. "And I said, 'All right man, that's a lot of clothes and a lot of shoes to buy.'"

Zeiher says Gilmore had five children, with the youngest one being around four months old. Zeiher says she knew he loved all of them and they were always top of his mind.

"He loved his kids, all five of them," Zeiher said. "It didn't matter. He loved his nephews, all of them."

Despite his size, Zeiher says he was soft at heart. The growing memorial sure to include stuffed animals, plenty of "I love you's" - and no goodbyes.

"It's definitely going to be a lot on us because he was a big part of the family," Zeiher said. "I would say he's someone who held the family together and I think just that alone is going to be hard on all of us."

St. Paul police say they are continuing their investigation at this time but have no other updates.
