Police: Multiple street closures in Sartell due to flooding

The Sartell Police Department closed off Pinecone Road from 2nd Street South to 7th Street North.

Authorities closed off multiple streets in Sartell due to flooding Thursday but reopened them after water levels receded quickly.

Meteorologist Sven Sundgaard says was due to the storms moving slowly through Minnesota, and the ground already being saturated.

The Sartell Police Department closed off Pinecone Road from 2nd Street South to 7th Street North, as well as parts of Third and Fifth avenues. More than four inches of rain overwhelmed the city just before noon, leading to cars being submerged in flash floods just before noon.

That included Matthew Raven's car, as well as his fiancee's Mercury, which may be totaled after suffering significant water damage.

"It happened so fast," Raven said. "Nice to see it's clearing out now."

A few blocks away, Melissa Blom watched her neighborhood travel through high flood waters in kayaks and rubber ducks.

"It was funny how a flooded street," she said, "could bring all the neighbors together."
