LAKEVILLE, Minn. — Voters in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District have selected Angie Craig to continue representing them in Washington.
Craig, a DFLer who has been representing the district in the US House since 2019, is the projected winner, according to the Associated Press.
She was running against Republican Joe Teirab, a former federal prosecutor and Marine.
Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District covers Dakota, Scott, Le Sueur, and part of Rice counties.
Craig sent media the below statement:
“It has been a tremendous honor to represent the folks of Minnesota’s Second District in the United States House of Representatives. I am humbled to have earned their support for a fourth term.
“Elections are not won in one day or by one person. They are won because a group of people, tied together by their care and hope for the future of our country, showed up month after month – ready to do the hard work to make a win like this possible. I’m grateful to every person whose dedication and persistence helped make tonight happen.
“Working with the people of Minnesota’s Second District has instilled in me a unique hope and optimism. Here, we know how to put aside our differences and work together to make life better for our neighbors. That is a spirit that will continue to drive my work in Congress.
“I am so grateful to every single Minnesotan who placed their trust in me today. I look forward to our continued work together.”
Craig lost to Republican Jason Lewis by less than 2 percentage points in 2016 before beating him by just over 5.5 points in their 2018 rematch. She defeated Marine Corps veteran Tyler Kistner by just over 2 points in 2020 and just over 5 points in 2022.
Craig, who was targeted with death threats and forced to move after fighting off a mentally disturbed attacker in the elevator of her Washington apartment building, staked out centrist positions on many issues.
