Where and how to vote in Minnesota elections

The midterm elections are on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Here's information on early voting, where to vote, polling information and more.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - In Minnesota, you can can register to vote anytime of the year including in person the day of the elections. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.

REGISTER TO VOTE:

As long as you meet Minnesota's voting requirements you can register to vote online, by mailing in a paper form, or in person at your polling location on the day of the election. Please check out the links to make sure you have the proper ID and information.

If you are already registered you do not need to show ID on Election Day, but if you are registering on Election Day you will need to provide a proof of address. There's a list of what will work as proof as address on the Secretary of State website.

VOTING:

In Minnesota you can vote early with an absentee ballot and in some cities you can vote early in person. Early voting starts 46 days before the election and goes until the day before the election.

You can vote early at the county election office and many cities have additional early voting spots open.

If you are looking for your Election Day polling place, the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State makes it easy. Go to their website and put in your zip code or county. The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

If you are in Wisconsin you can also go online to MyVoteWisconsin and enter your address to get your location.

You can take a look at a sample ballot specific to your location here at mnvotes.org.

Do not wear any political candidate or campaign t-shirts, buttons or carry candidate literature into the polling place. You will be asked to cover it up before entering.

Minneapolis has four early voting locations open through Nov. 5.

TRANSPORTATION TO THE POLLS:

Lyft and Uber are both offering free or discounted rides to the polls. Lyft is offering free rides to underserved communities through their nonprofit partners and discounts to others. Uber Drives the Vote is offering a similar plan with a button that will appear on their app to help voters find their polling locations.

And if you aren't too far from your polling place and you live in Minneapolis you can take a Lime scooter. You'll get two free rides on Nov. 6. Just use the code LIME2VOTE18 for a ride up to 30 minutes long.

If you are looking for information on who or what issues are on your ballot, the MN Secretary of State lets you look at a sample ballot. You just enter your zip code to get the correct one.
