FOREST LAKE, Minn. — Forest Lake is moving in a new direction after firing city administrator Patrick Casey during a city council meeting Tuesday.
A news release gives no reason for the termination, which is effective immediately. Casey has served in Forest Lake's top administrative post since 2018, according to his LinkedIn profile.
After voting to fire Casey, the council named Kristina Handt as interim city administrator. Handt is experienced at the position, having previously served as city administrator in Lake Elmo and Scandia and as village administrator in Luck, WI. She will serve in the role until a search for candidates is completed, and a new city administrator approved.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of Kristina's caliber to step into the role," said Forest Lake Mayor Mara Bain. "Her expertise and unique, comprehensive understanding of Forest Lake is exceptional, making her an ideal steward during this time.”
When asked about the reason for Casey's ouster, the mayor told KARE 11:
"Unfortunately due to the employment nature of your question, I'm not able to provide further details other than Council felt it time to take a new direction for city leadership. In addition, I am looking forward to working with Kristina in her role as interim administrator."
