ST PAUL, Minn. — Rep. Lisa Demuth made history Friday when she was elected to lead Republicans in the Minnesota House of Representatives as its new minority leader.
Demuth (R-Cold Spring) is the first Black woman to lead any of the state's legislative caucuses, and the first woman to lead House Republicans. She will replace Rep. Kurt Daudt, who served as the GOP leader in the House for the past decade.
"It's an honor to earn the support of my colleagues to serve as the next Leader of the House Republican Caucus," said Demuth. "Minnesota has a difficult two years ahead with Democrats in complete control of state government, but House Republicans will continue to keep the focus squarely on the priorities of Minnesota families — public safety, tax relief, and keeping energy costs low. We will work with Democrats when it's in the best interest of Minnesotans, but will not hesitate to point out when they bring bad ideas to the House floor."
Demuth was first elected in 2018 and has spent the past two years as an assistant minority leader.
