MOORHEAD, Minn. — Rep. Michelle Fischbach will defend her seat in November after defeating challenger Steve Boyd in Tuesday's Republican primary.
Fischbach, who is considered one of the most conservative members of Congress, won Minnesota's 7th Congressional District back in 2020, and is heavily favored to win in November.
“I am happy with this validation of the work I have done and will continue to do on behalf of the good people in western Minnesota," Fischbach said in a statement Tuesday night. "I am honored to be their voice in D.C. advocating for decency, common sense, and our rural way of life. In 2020, we had a contested primary, but we came together afterward, united by our shared belief in life, family values, and the need to stop the out of control spending and burdensome regulations coming from Washington. I am looking forward to coming together to win in November and get to work to make America prosperous, safe, and strong again.”
Despite being backed by Former President Donald Trump, Fischbach failed to get enough support at the district convention to win the state party endorsement, which made for an intriguing primary.
Boyd, a small business owner, challenged Fischbach with faith and family being among his top priorities. Boyd was a heavy underdog financially, spending a reported $170,000 on the race, while Fischbach spent over $1 million.
Rep. Fischbach will now go up against AJ Peters, who went unopposed in the Democratic primary.
