MINNEAPOLIS — On May 25, 2020, George Floyd died after then-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes. On April 20, 2021, a jury found Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
In the 330 days between Floyd's murder and Chauvin's conviction, people around the world raised their voices and called for justice for George Floyd. They protested racism and injustice, called on elected officials and leaders to make change, and inspired a new generation of activists. There was also anger, frustration and violence, seen in the riots in Minneapolis last summer.
Now, we're looking toward the future.
