St. Paul Public Schools Superintendent responds to viral video of staff member using 'racist language'

In a written statement, Gothard said the Highland Park Middle School staff member is on administrative leave.

On Thursday Superintendent of St. Paul Public Schools Joe Gothard, responded to a viral video that contained "racist language" from a staff member towards a student.

In a written statement, Gothard said the Highland Park Middle School staff member is on administrative leave.

"No matter the situation, the racist and foul language used by a staff member in the video has no place in Saint Paul Public Schools." Gothard said. "The words and actions recorded in this video have caused harm to our Black students, their families and our entire school community. These actions go against Saint Paul Public Schools core values and its commitment to serving youth and families."

The staff member can be heard using the n-word with a hard "E-R." She also uses a few expletives before.

KARE 11 has talked to the families involved.

Parents and students involved say this is not the first time they have had an issue with this staff member.
