ST. PAUL, Minn. – Food, fun and Bill Murray. It can only mean baseball is back in St. Paul.
The St. Paul Saints opened the 2016 campaign at home Thursday night to a packed CHS Field. The team looks to build off its franchise-best 74 wins in 2015.
The Saints lost big hitters Ian Gac and Vinny DiFazio, but retained first baseman Angelo Songco, who spent spring training with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
St. Paul also made a move earlier this week acquiring pitcher John Straka, who was one of the best pitchers in the league last season with an 11-3 record. Mark Hamburger, a Shoreview native, got the start Thursday night. He’s one of six Minnesota players on the 22-man roster.
Before the game, team part-owner, comedian, and actor Bill Murray was spotted taking batting practice and later mingling with Saints fans.
