Sven Explains: Baby jumping spiders

Spiders are something that might freak you out, but they DO eat a lot of insects. That being said, finding one in your home may give you the heebie-jeebies.

Ever feel like you're being watched in your own home? YOU ARE!

I'm not talking about an Apple Product or Alexa... I'm talking about baby jumping spiders! They are found in Minnesota and on all continents... (except Antarctica) and sometimes, inside the places we live.

New research out of the University of Cincinnati and published in the Journal 'Vision Research' has found that jumping spider babies are born with nearly the perfect vision of their parents. Most animals, humans included, take time for our eyes to develop to full potential. For humans it takes 3 to 5 years to see as well as a young adult with normal vision.

Scientists have thought adult jumping spiders were pushing the limits of what's possible in vision but the discovery that their babies, just hundredths of the size, are doing the same is even more incredible.

This is all part of an ongoing study on the evolution of color vision and biodiversity of spiders. Of course the more we understand how vision works the more it can help US with vision problems and technological advances.
