BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. - The Target store off of Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center will shut down by the end of the business day on Feb. 2, 2019. Target announced this closure in a list of other underperforming stores that will be closed by next year.
The CVS Pharmacy inside the store will also be closed.
All eligible store team members will be offered the option to transfer to a different Target store in their area, according to Erin Conroy, a public relations manager at Target in Minnesota.
Stores are usually only shut down after they've proven to be less and less profitable over a few years, says Conroy. This is despite many upgrades and investments.
The company closed 13 stores earlier in February of this year and 12 the previous year. It closed six in 2016, according to the Star Tribune.
By the end of 2018, Target will have opened nearly 30 stores nationwide, according to the Star Tribune. This will include small-format stores in more densely populated urban areas.
