ST. CLOUD, Minn. — A 17-year-old St. Cloud teen is facing legal consequences after what police are calling a hit-and-run accident involving a school bus.
Officers were called to the intersection of 22nd Street South and Shannon Drive just before 3:45 p.m. Friday, and found a school bus that was damaged from a collision. The 60-year-old driver said he had six students aboard and was making a left turn onto Shannon when a driver in a Hyundai approached from the rear at what he thought was a high rate of speed, tried to pass, and hit the bus in the middle of the driver's side.
Instead of stopping, the bus driver said the Hyundai driver backed up and drove off. A description of the hit-and-run vehicle was given to police. An ambulance was called to the scene as a precaution, but none of the students or their driver required medical attention.
Less than three hours later a traffic officer spotted the suspect vehicle parked on the 700 block of 8th Avenue South and police were called. Officers located a 17-year-old who reportedly admitted being responsible for the hit-and-run. That teen was ticketed on charges of failing to stop on the scene of an accident and released.
