MINNEAPOLIS, MN- It's official, the Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam is now closed.
The Army Corps of Engineers permanently closed the Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam at midnight, Tuesday.
The lock and dam has been open since 1963.
The closure is supposed to stop the spread of invasive carp in the Mississippi River.
This will be the first time a navigable waterway has been closed to block an invasive species.
