Anoka wrestling spans generations, celebrates 75th anniversary of team

The Tornadoes tradition dates back to 1945 and includes five Olympians.

ANOKA, Minn. —

There's a lot of hardware and even more history at Anoka.

Dick Rand has seen nearly all of it. He was a member of the Tornadoes team that earned a commemorative belt buckle for winning the 1949 state championship.

On Friday, Anoka High School celebrated the 75th anniversary of the wrestling team.

Dating back to 1945, this tradition spans many years and also multiple generations.

With seven team state championships, 52 individual champions and five Olympians - including Brandon Paulson - this legacy continues on.

Now his son, Eli, takes the same mat as his father. The freshman for the Tornadoes hopes to bring even more hardware back to Anoka.
