CLEVELAND — Sunday marked another historic day for women's basketball, with 18.7 million people watching South Carolina defeat Iowa 87-75 to win the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
The number, accompanied by a peak of 24 million viewers, marked the most-watched women's college basketball game on record since 1992, ESPN PR announced. It was also the most-watched sporting event excluding only football and the Olympics since 2019.
Iowa's Final Four victory over UConn was previously the most-watched hoops game, men's or women's, in the network's history at 14.2 million viewers.
Clark, the star Iowa guard, alongside Kamilla Cardoso of South Carolina, are both set to enter the 2024 WNBA Draft. The draft takes place on Monday, April 15 in Brooklyn.
