PITTSBURGH - The younger brother of Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy has died after an incident at a gym.
A spokeswoman for Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, says 47-year-old Joseph McCarthy died Wednesday morning at a hospital in McCandless in western Pennsylvania.
Spokeswoman Amie Downs says the report from the Medical Examiner's Office stated that Joseph McCarthy was taken to the hospital after an incident at a gym. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is expected to be conducted on Thursday.
Mike McCarthy, the 51-year-old Packers coach, cited a personal matter in postponing a season-ending news conference at Lambeau Field on Wednesday morning.
Packers president Mark Murphy says the McCarthy family appreciates the outpouring of support that they have received and asks for privacy.
There was no answer when a call was made to Joseph McCarthy's home.
