Big Ten Women's Basketball tourney sells out for the first time

The tournament will be played March 6-10 at Target Center.

MINNEAPOLIS — For the first time in its history, the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament is sold out.

This year's tournament will be played from March 6 through 9 at Target Center in Minneapolis, the second consecutive year the Twin Cities has hosted the event.

Downtown Minneapolis will be swarming with hoops fans from schools across the conference, with one of the biggest draws likely to be Iowa's Caitlin Clark, who recently became the all-time leader in scoring for NCAA Division I women's basketball.

News of the sellout is the latest success story for women's sports in Minnesota, following the strong interest in Minnesota Aurora professional women's soccer team since its debut, and the record-setting crowds in attendance for Minnesota's PWHL team.

More than 109,000 fans are expected to attend the five-day Big Ten Women's Basketball tournament, according to a news release.
