Gopher women break 10-year drought at Michigan with 82-66 win

The U of M had four players in double figures, led by Mallory Heyer with 21 and Grace Grocholski, who dropped 16 in the fourth quarter alone.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Ten years is a LONG time. 

The Minnesota Gophers women's basketball crew put nearly a decade of losing at Crisler Center behind them Tuesday night, rallying to shut down Michigan 82-66. Four Golden Gophers scored in double figures, led by Mallory Heyer's 21 points. Grace Grocholski added 19, dropping 16 of those in the fourth quarter to help seal the deal. 

Guard Amaya Battle chipped in with a well-rounded game, notching 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists. 

The Golden Gophers shot a scorching 54 percent from the three-point line, with Heyer hitting six and Grocholski dropping five.  

Tuesday marked the first time the 'U' has won on the road at Michigan since Feb, 1m 2014. It pushes their record to 12-3 overall. (2-2 in Big Ten play)
