MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers are bowl-bound in New York City.
The Gophers announced they've accepted an invitation to the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl, to be played at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, Dec. 29. The Gophers (8-4) will face the Syracuse Orange (7-5) from the ACC.
"We are excited to face Syracuse in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl," Gophers Head Coach P.J. Fleck said in a statement. "There is no place in the world like New York City, and I am looking forward to our team experiencing its vibrancy, culture and history. I am also excited for our team to compete against the Orange in Yankee Stadium, which is one of the most iconic and well-known sporting venues in the world. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Babers and what he has done with his program, and I know our team is looking forward to competing again on Thursday, Dec. 29."
The game will be the 23rd bowl appearance for the Gopher football team in the university's history.
The Gophers have won five straight bowl appearances, including all three bowl games with Fleck as head coach (2018 Quick Lane Bowl, 2020 Outback Bowl, 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl).
The game also marks the sixth meeting between the Gophers and Orange. Minnesota is 3-2 all-time against Syracuse. The Gophers will also look to continue an unbeaten streak against nonconference opponents, after going 3-0 against non-Big Ten teams in 2022, and 17-1 against nonconference opponents during Fleck's tenure as Minnesota head coach.
