MOBILE, Ala. — While the Minnesota Gophers football team's 5-7 record is far from ideal, there are a couple of bright spots at the end of the regular season.

Two long-time Gophers are being recognized for their play on the field.

Officials from the Senior Bowl have invited U of M standouts Tyler Nubin and Brevyn Spann-Ford to compete in the annual post-season college football all-star game.

Nubin, a fifth-year student-athlete, and Spann-Ford, a sixth-year student-athlete, are the 48th and 49th Gophers to be invited to the Senior Bowl.

Nubin, a 6-2, 210-pound defensive back from St. Charles, Ill., was recently named All-Big Ten First Team.

He made over 200 tackles in 55 career games for the Maroon & Gold. He has the team's interception record with 13 career picks.

This year, Nubin made 53 tackles, 5 picks and four pass breakups. Nubin's younger brother, Jordan, is a Gophers running back.

Spann-Ford, a 6-7, 269-pound tight end from St. Cloud, was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention.

He made 95 receptions for 1,061 yards and seven touchdowns during his 60 games as a Golden Gopher.

The Senior Bowl, first played in 1950, is considered a showcase for NFL prospects who have completed their college eligibility.

The game will kick off at noon on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the University of South Alabama's Hancock-Whitney Stadium and will be followed by a free Counting Crows concert.
