DURHAM, N.H. — Izzy Daniel, a two-time state champion with The Blake School, was named the top NCAA Division I women's hockey player Saturday ahead of the puck dropping on the Women's Frozen Four in Durham, N.H.

The Minneapolis native was named the 2024 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award after recording 21 goals and 59 points in her final season with Cornell University. The Big Red came up just short of qualifying for the Women's Frozen Four — losing 3-1 to Colgate in the regional final — but Daniel and the Cornell women's hockey team had plenty to celebrate on Saturday.

"Triple crown complete," posted the Cornell athletics department on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Izzy Daniel has earned Ivy League Player of The Year… ECAC Hockey Player of The Year… and now becomes the FIRST Cornellian ever to claim the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award!"

Daniel beat out two other finalists — Casey O'Brien and Kirsten Simms, both from the University of Wisconsin — to become the 27th winner of the prestigious award.
