MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Gophers football game against North Carolina Thursday was pushed back to 8 p.m. as storms moved through the North Star Sate.

The game was supposed to start at 7 p.m., but the Gophers said in an update fans should take precautions with the potentially severe weather expected to reach the metro area around 4:30 p.m.

Even though the winds were strong, Gopher fans weathered the storm for their team.

“Gophers are going to win in the thunderstorm a Tar Heel will hide. We’re going to kick their butts this game," said Sam Verbrugge.

"I love college football," said Vince Wright. "Only in Minnesota, we go from 90 degrees hot and humid, storm comes through, it will be about 60 degrees when it's done."

The schedule showed gates are opening at 6:30 p.m. and at 6:40 p.m. there was a Gopher Spirit Rally. University officials said fans could shelter inside Williams Arena and 3M Arena at Mariucci as needed.
