ST PAUL, Minn. — Registration for this year's Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon is now open and organizers say they already have a "head-start" following last year's 11th-hour decision to cancel the race due to the heat.
Twin Cities In Motion President Dean Orton said marathon officials registered over 3,000 people last fall because they introduced a special entry window after the marathon was scratched.
The date of the race is also slightly pushed back. Last year's scrapped race was scheduled for the last weekend of September. This year's marathon is set for the first weekend of October.
The bustling event includes several different races of varying distances to choose from, culminating in the 26.2 marathon race from downtown Minneapolis to the State Capitol in St. Paul Sunday morning.
Registration for events is at tcmevents.org.
In addition to the marathon, which runs on Sunday, Oct. 6, registration is open for the following events that are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5:
- Medtronic TC Family Events
- TC 5K
- TC 10K
Registration is also open for the TC Loony and TC Ultra Loony Challenges, where runners can participate in the TC 5K and TC 10K before running the Medtronic TC 10 Mile or marathon the following day.
The registration drawing for the TC 10 Mile opens on June 17.
Twin Cities In Motion officials expect a sell-out field of 8,000 runners for the marathon, over 12,000 runners for the TC 10 Mile race and more than 28,000 total registrants for the big weekend.
“We’re eager to open registration to the general public and officially begin the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon build-up,” Twin Cities In Motion President Dean Orton said in a news release. “The marathon already has more than 3300 entrants thanks to runners from last year’s heat-cancelled events signing up during a special entry window last fall. We can already see there’s lots of excitement for this year’s marathon weekend and anticipate serving the community at sold-out levels for both Saturday & Sunday.”
Additional information about the marathon can be found on the Twin Cities in Motion website.
