ST PAUL, Minn. — Twin Cities in Motion (TCM) is set to offer full registration refunds following the cancellation of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and TC 10 MIle this year.
The two events were scrapped just hours before they were scheduled to begin on Oct. 1 due to unseasonably hot weather conditions leading to safety concerns for participants.
In an announcement posted Friday, Twin Cities in Motion said "impacted runners will receive a refund equal to their registration payment as compensation for the canceled races on October 1." The organization said it was able to use insurance coverage, cash reserves and cost savings to pay for the refunds.
In addition to the refund, runners will receive guaranteed registration for the same event in 2024 at the same price as 2023.
"We understand the race cancellation on October 1 was a difficult and emotional experience. While a registration refund does not replace the experience of a great, safe race and does not necessarily cover all the expenses incurred for race weekend, we are glad to be able to refund runners their race registration," TCM said in a statement. "Our priority throughout this process was to do the best possible for our runners while remaining an active, vital, and solvent member of the Twin Cities nonprofit community. We’re committed to continuing our efforts to engage people through movement and stewarding the community’s marathon weekend tradition."
